![]() Friday, July 26, 2002 -- Dagny is 6 months old!!! Yesterday Dagny was 6 months old. I can't believe it. She has changed so much. I got out one of her newborn outfits and held it next to one of the 12month outfits I just bought her for the fall/winter - and I just couldn't believe that she possibly could have grown that much. She's 18lbs 2oz, and 26.5 inches long. That's 90th percentile in weight and 75th percentile in height. She's wearing 6-9month clothes. She can sit up by herself! This is a most wonderful thing. I can put her on a blanket on the floor with a bunch of toys and she's content to play and watch me wander around the room. She also launches herself forward to try to get a toy that's rolled out of reach. She's not too happy when she ends up on her tummy though. She's noticed the cats. :) They wisely run away from her, but occasionally she'll grab a handful of fur. She gets so excited - it's very cute. We're still nursing. I'm halfway to my minimum goal of 1 year. I would like to go for two years and I see no reason why I wouldn't make it unless I get pregnant again first. The recent reporting as to the anti-breast cancer benefits of extended breastfeeding definitely gives me more incentive to keep going. Since I have a family history of breast cancer from my mom and I could stand to lose about 30 pounds, it's nice to be able to significantly lower my risk of getting it. I've halfheartedly started solids. She wasn't very into it, so I didn't push it. It's not uncommon for breastfed babies to still be getting 90% of their nutrition at their first birthday, so I'm in no rush. She's growing very well, she's starting to go 3 hours between feedings during the day and up to 7 hours at night, so she certainly doesn't need solids at this point. But, today, she actually downed a half a jar of sweet potatoes! We'll see if she wants some squash for dinner. We're using organic babyfood in jars for now. Once we get through the initial introduction period, I might venture into making my own. She eats so little, it's really not that expensive to buy it. If I wait long enough, I'll be able to skip this phase for the most part and then just start feeding her what we're eating after mashing it up some.
Let's see, what else... She's a grabby girl. She grabs EVERYTHING!!!! And everything goes into her mouth for her to BITE! This includes my fingers, elbows, nose, etc... As well as the TV remote, the phone, keys, Pete's badge, anything and everything. She seems to NEED to have something in her hands at all times. Anyway, here are some more recent pics:
