![]() Monday, June 24, 2002 -- She'll sleep in her crib... Dagny is so laid back! She's outgrown her snugglenest, so she sleeps with us just on our mattress, between our pillows where the snugglenest used to be. But we won't leave her in our bed by herself, especially since she is so close to being able to roll over. So when she goes to bed at 8, she needs to go in her crib. We tried this the end of last month, but she was teething and it was a disaster. She kept waking up crying, almost screaming, and in need of much consoling in order to get back to sleep. So we decided to wait. But now she really does not fit in the snugglenest, so I decided to try again. So at around 7:45pm I take her upstairs, change her diaper, and nurse her in the rocker instead of in bed. She usually falls asleep or gets pretty close while she's nursing. Then I put her in her crib. She usually wakes back up, but she quickly finds her thumb. I then sit back in the rocker, right next to the crib, which is in our room, and start reading my book. As long as she's not crying, I ignore her while she either looks at her mobile or sucks her thumb. Often she's out cold in about 10 minutes. If she does start crying, first I will try stroking her head and talking to her, but if that doesn't work immediately and she's just getting more upset I'll pick her up and sit back in the rocker with her and try again. Once she's asleep, I'll sit and read a little while longer to make sure she's really out. I expected much more of a fight from her, but I don't think she cares where she sleeps or if we're there or not. I bring her into bed with us when we go to sleep just so I don't have to get up when she wants to nurse during the night. And now that she can roll onto her side, that's how she likes to sleep. It's also enabled us to perfect nursing while I'm lying down - yay!!!!! And, I think I've finally started to stop leaking from the other side while she's nursing. My breast pads were still dry this morning. They are usually soaked. So maybe, just maybe, I can start sleeping without a bra. And that means that Dagny can just latch herself on during the night, and I can finally get some uninterupted sleep! It's nice to have our evenings back. We've been renting a lot of movies. We've never been big movie goers, so we're catching up on all the ones we've missed in the theaters. We've rented Ocean's 11 (no surprises), Pushing Tin (not bad), Clockwatchers (starts promising, goes nowhere), Mulholland Drive (to weird for my post-preggo brain), KPAX (also not bad), and some others that I don't even remember. One of these days we'll actually get a sitter and go out.... I've started going to the YMCA again and working out. I put Dagny in babysitting there. We have two Y's in Naperville. One is a 30 minute drive away, has a better pool and better aerobics studio and better step classes, but I got the impression they don't play with the babies much and kind of just leave them in a swing or an exersaucer. Our other Y is an 8 minute drive, has no air conditioning in the gym where the not as good step class is, but they just love Dagny and play with her and hold her most of the time she's there. So I go to the close one. Actually, it's the drive that's the deal breaker. She's still nursing every 2-2.5 hours, and the hour's worth of driving is just too much. The 8:30am class at the close Y fits into Dagny's current schedule very well. We wake up at 7:30, wait for her to have her morning super-poop, change her diaper, get her dressed, put her in her crib and start her mobile, then I get on my workout clothes, go downstairs and eat a quick breakfast, come back upstairs, nurse her, and then I grab the diaper bag and my water bottle, Y card, and keys and am out the door by 8:20, do my class from 8:30 til 9:45, grab her from babysitting, go home, change her diaper, nurse her and then it's a little after 10am - just in time for her morning nap. Then I grab some more food, take a shower, start some laundry, and sit and type Squirmy entries. :) That's today's news. Here are some pics that were taken almost a month ago, but they are very cute.
