![]() Thursday, March 7, 2002 -- New Pics and random happenings Well, Dagny will be 6 weeks old tomorrow. She is still not on any sort of schedule. So the main problem with life is not really lack of sleep, but rather never knowing how much time I have to do something other than tend to her. She could be asleep for 10 minutes or 6 hours or anything inbetween. She's generally doing midnight til 4-6am. If it's 4am, she'll go back to sleep til 6 or 7. Actually, the midnight feeding and the 6-7am one are the only consistant ones. After that, who knows... And she'll sleep anywhere.... on the couch, in the bassinet of the pack-n-play, in our bed, in her crib, in the bouncy seat, in the swing, in the sling, in the carseat, on my chest, whatever. Now, she seems to be doing her 6 week growth spurt. She eats ALL day one day and then sleeps all day the next. My boobs are so confused!!!! I'm really glad I have a good breast pump! We decided to try to give her a bottle of pumped milk on Saturday. We were prepared for this huge battle, but she just sucked it right down. I guess she doesn't care where it comes from she just likes the milk! She's discovered her hands, so now where debating the pros and cons of a pacifier vs. the thumb. Most of the time I'm the pacifier as she comforts sucks at the end of most feedings when she falls asleep. But there are times she just wants to suck and not eat and I end up whipping out my boob every 10 minutes and she gets mad when milk actually comes out of it when she didn't want any! Then she gets either Pete's pinky or my finger to suck on, but that will only work for so long. Pete's leaning towards thumb, I'm leaning towards pacifier. Hmmm.... She can hold a rattle for about a minute. She looks at us and smiles lots. She still only cries when hungry or having pooping problems. Mostly she makes little "eh, eh" noises when she wants something. We figure we are saving between $130 and $180 a month by breastfeeding and using cloth diapers - which is pretty cool. We'll just go broke keeping her in clothes and toys. Babies, like cats, are amazingly strong. Her nails are like razor blades, even when I keep them cut, so I have to wrestle her to keep her hands away from my boobs while she's nursing. I need a little baby straight jacket!!!!!! If I don't keep her arms pinned/held she beats me up good! The cats mostly completely ignore her. Occasionally, one will come over and sniff her head, but then they run away. They're scared of her. But at least they are starting to hang around me and Pete again. I get out about twice a week at this point. I'm working up to more. It'll be easier as the weather warms up. I wrapped her in a blanket, put a hat on her, and put her in the sling, and put my fleece jacket over both of us and went for a walk today. That was really nice. She slept the entire time snuggled against my chest. I looked rather ridiculous, but oh well. Anyway, enough rambling. She's hungry. Here are some pics. These and more are available at http://www.petoni.org/webimages/dagny/ They aren't labeled or anything - sorry.
