![]() Wednesday, January 23, 2002 -- Contractions!!!!!!!!!! Well, at about 5:30 this morning I got up to pee and burp, just like I do all night every night. But when I got back into bed, I noticed these gas pains that weren't really gas pains. And they came and went. They got stronger then weaker. They started to feel like menstrual cramps. Burping did not make them go away. Oh my, I think they're contractions!!!! At about 6:30 I got up to pee again and had some pinky-brown blood tinged slippery mucus when I wiped. This is known as "bloody show". It means my cervix is dilating and some of the blood vessels are breaking - definite pre-labor sign! I then crawled into bed with Pete and woke him up, and we started timing the contractions. They were very irregular - 2min. apart, 6 min. apart, 8 min. apart, 3 min. apart, 30 seconds, 45 seconds, 1 minute, 25 seconds, etc.... I felt them in my lower abdomen. Some were kinda strong - like about my worst menstrual cramp, most weren't. But when I got up to turn on the computer and eat breakfast they kind of slowed down, and became much less intense. This continued on and off all day. The midwife said it sounded like pre-labor, but we could still have a few days. She told me to eat, drink, and REST, REST, REST!!!! She said do not go and try to walk the planet to get things going. They like well rested mommies, not mommies that are exhausted before active labor even begins. So I spent the day on the couch except for going and getting my hair cut. At around 9pm I decided to take a bath, hoping it would make the contractions slow down or even stop so I could sleep tonight. But it did the opposite. Except for 3 errant ones, they have been about 5 minutes apart and about 1 minute long. Yet I can still talk through them, though some of them are doosies!!!! So we're in a holding pattern. If they get more consistant, and closer, and stronger, we'll call the docs. If not, we'll just hang out and try to get some sleep. But it looks like we'll have a baby soon. ~~~~~CONTRACTION~~~~~ can't type..... Luckily we did the a belly cast last night. Here's a pic:
And here's a pic of the baby stuff closet:
